It's official

As of this past Tuesday, I am officially a PMP, as certified by the governing institution for project managers. PMP, for the unenlightened, means Project Management Professional.

Now, as a Project Manager, I frequently get the opportunity to engage in the activity of developing new acronyms for projects or systems. The most important aspect of this is to ensure that the acronyms under consideration do not offend or are easily perverted to cause offense.

Which makes one wonder why PMI decided on PMP, which is easily perverted into Pimp (and has been by some of my co-workers), which is really more of a discreet recruiting and sales job then one of managing discrete work efforts in a finite time frame. Although I guess if you get paid by the hour...

And so I provide some other Unfortunate Acronyms I have known and loved:

FIONA--who was frequently referred to as a Witch, but with a different first letter.
SNM--The Systems and Network Management group.
PMS-- Project Management Support (This could have been Group, but oh no....)

One can see how this can easily get out of hand, if one is not careful with the acronyms. After all, it's all fun and games, until someone calls Human Resources to complain of their hostile work environment.

Hee hee! "I'd like to file a complaint against a PMSing Pimp named Fiona!"

But seriously--congrats!
